Conceptualising 2 - Overall Concept

There have been a number of different interpretations of MND over the years.  As you have researched Adrian Noble chose to conceptualise his version as a circus.

Others have relocated the action away from the traditional enchanted wood. Some have even used the play a a metaphor for the effects that narcotics have on society (I'll leave you to consider that one).

How would you present MND?
What would your over-arching concept of the play be like?

What would be the point?  How would it be relevant?

Where would it be located?

The important thing to rememeber are...

1.  It is a comedy.
2.  There need to be two distinct realms.
3.  The audience need to be able to automatically feel 'ok' with whatever you do.

Your ideas please...

  1. I think it would work well being set in a school,
with the different realms being between the saff rooms and they play ground. and the actually proformance of peter quince and flute and bottom at the end (who are the class clowns) to be the actually school play and egeus to be the headmaster while hermia his daughter and her ex best friend helena while both of them are stuck between lysander and Demetrius

  2. i think it would good to be set out of the ordinary such as like a cafe or random food place. i think the forest could maybe be the kitchen. the fairys could work on the kitchen being chefs and the king and queen could be the two who own the place. and waiter could be hermia and demetruis could be a regualar

  3. I think it would be a great idea if they put the set on a pirate ship where Egeus will rule is the captain hook version of it. I think the cafe would be the meeting place for the fairies as cleaners and have Titania as the waitress. On the ship there would be Hermia as a spoilt daughter of the captain,Helena as the hairdresser whilst Lysander and Demetrius are the lower deck cleaners.

  5. i think it would be good if it was set in an desert as the characters would find alot more challenges along the way and this would become more amusing for the audience the king an queen could both know their way around the place and everyone else are just puzzled on where they are going untill they find a map :D
